On Saturday, May 12, “Columbus’ favorite burlesque performer,” Viva Valezz!, will be kicking off the most memorable road trip of her life. Valezz! and a few of her most talented and colorful performer friends will be embarking upon the cross country “Fierce Burlesque Tour” to promote “Fierce: the First International Queer Burlesque Festival.”
Both the upcoming Fierce Tour and the Fierce Queer Burlesque Festival are events intended to be celebrated by everyone — honoring the best of queer burlesque, highlighting the talents of queer performers and their allies — all of those people who support them and want to pay tribute to them. The Fierce Queer Burlesque Festival, to be held in 2013, will celebrate the talents of the burlesque performers of the world who identify as “queer,” gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, or intersex, and their queer allies. The festival will be a celebration of the creativity, talent, and passion of queer performers and their community of fans, supporters and loved ones. Likewise, the cast of the Fierce Burlesque Tour is made up of both queer performers and supportive allies. To promote the festival, the tour will perform for both gay and heterosexual, burlesque and non-burlesque, audiences throughout the Eastern half of the US from as far West as Wisconsin; as far East as Long Island, NY; as far North as Detroit, MI; and as far South as Atlanta, GA.
The tour cast includes The Incredible Edible Akynos and Crimson Kitty from New York City; Crystal Swarovski from Washington, DC; Geegee Louise from Boston, MA; Twinkletoes McGee from San Francisco, CA; and Pandora Foxx and Viva Valezz! from Columbus, OH. The performers’ burlesque styles vary for a show that will appeal to a variety of audiences. The show includes classically trained ballet and modern dance to please the artsy crowds; traditional old school brassiness to please the diehard burlesque crowds; and of course some mirror ball disco to please the gay crowds. The Fierce Tour hopes to celebrate queer pride with many fans and friends along the way, since the tour will travel through the US during the time of year that most large cities have their Gay Pride celebrations — May and June.
Fierce: the First International Queer Burlesque Festival will be held the first weekend of May 2013 in Columbus, Ohio. The festival will include three nights of parties and burlesque shows featuring performers from all over the world. Fierce is currently looking for sponsors and partners, and will start the performer application process before the end of 2012.
