What is Laugh Track at Sidetrack?

It’s a live comedy show at Chicago’s Sidetrack video bar that focuses on stand-up comedy. It’s a live event on their comedy video night that they’ve done for decades, we started it weekly and now do one night events every so often. Thursday May 24th we’re doing an IML themed show.

How did it start?

I interviewed the general manager for a web show about 4 years ago and told him they should have a comedy show at Sidetrack (not as part of the interview) and sent him an email with clips and potential comedians for it. Then a few years ago, I did a comedy show with Bradley Thomas who is Sidetrack’s house MC for many of their events. Then the pieces kind of came together.

Is it a strictly queer show?

Well, everyone who runs it is queer as hell. And Sidetrack is historically known as a gay bar. But when I put any show together I strive to have different sexual and ethnic backgrounds represented. If not everyone on stage isn’t the same then audiences won’t feel left out. More so than the line-up, it’s a queer friendly show that everyone feels welcome attending. Our audiences have been historically half queer and half straight. And all fabulous.

How will it be IML themed?

Last year, we brought in one of my all-time favorite comedians, Brad Loekle. He’s an incredibly talented comedian with a weekly television show and is always touring boat cruises and all across the country. Some say that he could be described as “bearish.” It was a terrific show last year and so I proposed we should do it again. There won’t be many “What’s the deal with harnesses” jokes but, if we’re lucky, Bradley Thomas will wear his leather gear again this year. And, not that anybody asked, no I will not be wearing leather.
